Thomas Ercolano III

Ledgewood, New Jersey

Mr. Ercolano has eight years of experience and is an associate of Forster Arbore Velez.  He is a former Deputy Attorney General who prosecuted Division of Child Protection and Permanency ("DCP&P") matters in the New Jersey Superior Court.   After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania and then his Juris Doctor from the Seton Hall University School of Law, in Newark, New Jersey, Mr. Ercolano spent a year clerking for the Honorable Roger W. Daley (Ret.) in the New Jersey Superior Court, Family Part in Middlesex County. After his clerkship, Mr. Ercolano worked for a short time in private practice and then spent almost five years in public service with the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.

During his years as a Deputy Attorney General, he handled countless cases on behalf of DCP&P (formerly known as DYFS), conducting Order to Show Cause custody hearings, case management conferences, pre-trial conferences, child abuse and neglect fact-findings and termination of parental rights trials.  Mr. Ercolano also worked with expert witnesses including child abuse pediatricians, psychologists and psychiatrists in the course of DCP&P investigations and litigation.   In addition to developing his trial advocacy skills, he also wrote appellate briefs and presented oral arguments before the Appellate Division.

After his time as a Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Ercolano spent almost two years at a premier New Jersey Criminal Defense firm handling cases on behalf of clients charged with indictable crimes, disorderly persons offenses, and traffic violations, including DWI/DUIs.  At Forster Arbore Velez, Mr. Ercolano now represents clients in family matters, criminal cases and general litigation.  Mr. Ercolano's unique combination of past experiences in both the public and private sectors allows him to zealously advocate for his clients and approach cases with a diligent and comprehensive approach.
